1960 Makeup - Inspired Twiggy Makeup

1950's makeup looks carried on out into the 1960's. Matte skin, soft pinks on the eyelids with statement eyeliner - but not the same winged look; statement lines that carve the eyes and make the whole look go from neutral to bold in seconds. Blue, grey and white eyeshadow colours were very popular. The eyes would be paired with a neutral pink lip to help emphasize the eyes. False eyelashes were applied for the top lashes and also bottom lashes.

Twiggy

Twiggy is a wonderful example of the 1960's Makeup; with her bold eyeliner in the crease of her eye and her bottom lashes are draw on using eyeliner. White pencil eyeliner was applied on her waterline to create an eye opening eye look. Her natural lightly filled in eyebrows, light pink lips, soft contouring and matte skin allowed her eyes to really show off the uniqueness about her.

I created my own 1960 look with my own twist. After prepping my skin, I applied a medium coverage matte foundation before applying concealer over blemishes and setting my skin with a lot of powder as I really wanted my skin looking matte with minimal shine to fit the era theme. I filled in my eyebrows using a pencil and shaped it more using a blonde pomade. I applied a neutral eyeshadow to my eyelids as a transition shade. Using a light grey shade, I blended it into my crease to shape it; then used a finer blender brush to apply black into the crease which was my twist; I wanted the look to have a little less neutral shades and wanted to smoke the eye look out lightly. I used eyeliner on my upper lash line going close to the inner and outer corner. I also went along the crease of my eye to cut it so that it screamed bold as you can see the contrasted line between the cream tone and black. I used Twiggy's eye look techniques to make my eyes look bigger by using gel liner and a fine brush to lightly draw on my bottom eyelashes which was very effective. White eyeliner was applied to my waterline to make my eyes pop and give the illusion of bigger eyes. I lightly contoured my skin with a light bronzer and applied this a little higher up my cheeks down to my cheek bones and across as I was going to take a photo in black and white, I really wanted the cheeks to appear on camera. I believe that a lot of Twiggy's photos were taken in black and white; therefore this might be a reason why she likes to really bolden features on her eyes as they can be easy to abbreviate and come out really well and eye catching on camera.

Using my finger I applied a light pink on my inner lips and blended them out so that my lips have a dash of colour but are minimal to let the eyes shine through.
